Intro
It’s not that long ago when the mere mention of the words non alcoholic drew a rye smile our downright derision but thankfully the game has changed and even the doubters are starting to re-evaluate the category. For the rest of us we’ve long know that this is a hugely important, innovative and exciting category and we now have products that taste better than most of their full strength counterparts. Australia has seen the uptake and interest in non alcoholic beer increase in recent years but compared to countries like Spain where non alcoholic beer represents 8% of total beer sales we still have a long way to go.
There are so many reasons why people are opting for non alcoholic beverages including healthier lifestyle, diet (alcohol contains calories), moderate drinking, sobriety, cultural reasons or perhaps if you are the designated driver.
Although non alcoholic beer and non alcoholic wine has been around for decades the quality and variety of these products has experienced huge expansion in recent years and now with the right product to suit every palate there’s no need to compromise.
Here at Non Alc we have selected brands which we know meet the highest quality standards and deliver flavour, satisfaction, refreshment and enjoyment.
We already offer a number of brands on our website which are exclusive to our site and have many exciting new products to add in the coming months so well worth signing up to our monthly newsletter to keep updated on all the latest news and offers.

Non Alcoholic versus Alcohol Free
This is still somewhat of a grey area as technically any beverage with an ABV of 0.5% or less is deemed to have no physiological impact of alcohol on the consumer however, the term ‘Alcohol Free’ is sometimes used to denote a product which has no detectable alcohol whatsoever. You may be interested to learn that bread and fruit juice can regularly contain a higher level of alcohol than non-alcoholic beers as they are subject to the fermentation of yeast.
For anyone that is giving up alcohol for health reasons or dependency issues then it would be advisable to discuss this with your medical professional as these could act as a trigger
Non Alcoholic Beer
We have been enjoying non alcoholic beers for over 20 years (and brushed off the jokes) and know that only a handful can really stand up and deliver an experience that can equal or surpass that of traditional full strength beer. This is why the bedrock of our range of non alcoholic beers consists of Budvar, Clausthaler and Erdinger as these are all original pioneers in the brewing industry and have been perfecting their non alcoholic beers over many decades.
There are a myriad of of methods to produce non-alcoholic beer and many choose to brew a full strength beer and then use either a process of dialysis, reverse osmosis, heat (boiling off the ethanol) or cold contact to extract the alcohol which can also strip away some of the aromas, colours and flavours. Some breweries have developed alternative methods to brew non alcoholic beer and In the case of Erdinger they have pioneered a method which stops the fermentation process after a few hours which allows them to capture all of the flavour, aroma and mouthfeel of the beer without having to go through these rigorous processes to remove the alcohol.
“Small Beer” has been around for centuries and was very common prior to the 19th Century when potable drinking water was deemed unsafe whilst fermented beverages were much more stable and less likely to cause illness from bacteria. These ‘small beers’ were typically produced from the ‘second runnings’ of stronger beer so less flavour and less alcohol but at 1% ABV or less the effects of the alcohol were negligible and provided great refreshment.
In the 20th Century the introduction of Prohibition in the US between 1920 - 1933 outlawed the sale or consumption of alcohol and this forced many brewers to switch to brewing low alcohol “malt beverages” to keep their businesses trading and these were commonly known as ‘small beer’.
Non Alcoholic Wine
When it comes to producing non-alcoholic wine again there are 2 main choices. Either you can produce a full strength wine and then remove the alcohol (de-alcoholised) or you can use grape juice which is unfermented and therefore does not contain alcohol. It’s worth pointing out that because there are many more additional procedures involved in producing non alcoholic wine this is often explains why they can be similar in price to regular wines. Many non-alcoholic wines tend to be a little on the sweet side as many of the natural sugars haven’t been converted to alcohol but the non alcoholic wines we’ve selected are clean and dry.
We carry a range of non alcoholic red wines and non alcoholic white wines. and even carry a few non alcoholic sparkling options and Although we don’t have an actual non alcoholic champagne our non alcoholic sparkling wines are as close as you will get.
Non Alcoholic Cider
We are delighted to be the exclusive agent in Australia for Val de Rance Organic Non-Alcoholic French Cider. Val de Rance Organic non alcoholic ciders are produced in Brittany Northern France where they have literally hundreds of apple varieties which do not grow anywhere else in the World.
In today’s world where everything is automated and rushed it’s reassuring to know that some companies still adhere to traditional methods and steering clear of adding sugar , artificial flavours or colouring and even time honoured traditions of waiting until the apple falls off the tree before picking as only then are they ready to be used for making this delicious range of non alcoholic cider.
